Forever Remember!
| Joan Clyde Whicker | ||
Joan Clyde Whicker 1947 ~ 2009 Joan Clyde Whicker, born March 18, 1947, returned Home Thursday, May 14, 2009. Joan was born and raised in Springville, Utah by William R. and Hazel A. Clyde. Joan knew from a young age that she wanted to be a nurse and spent her life caring for the sick and afflicted. After completing the nursing program at BYU she had hoped to work in a big city hospital; however, circumstances found her committing two years to the tiny Fillmore Hospital after graduation. There she was introduced to and fell in love with her eternal companion, Ross H. Whicker. They were married in the Manti Temple on August 27, 1971. Together they raised three children; LeeAnn (Troy) Loader, Rob (Lark) Whicker, and John (Juliann) Whicker. Joan worked as a nurse in Fillmore, Cedar City, Provo, and for 28 years at Cottonwood Hospital, where she was known as "Dr. Joan." She will be deeply missed by her many treasured friends from Cottonwood. Joan's life was an example of Christ-like love and service. She loved to sew and found joy in making clothes, dresses, and pajamas for her family. She had an amazing talent for tying quilts and nearly every friend and relative of Joan's is the owner of one or more of her beautiful quilts. She was an excellent cook and her door was always open, or she would make sure you had a key. Joan had a beautiful voice and a gift for teaching primary songs to children. She spent many years serving as a primary chorister, a primary teacher, and in Cub Scouts. Above all, she willingly cared for anyone in need, from her family members to providing humanitarian service for the needy around the world. Joan is survived by her husband, children, their spouses, and nine treasured grandchildren: Aleesa, Mauryn, and Rylan Loader; Jordan, Tannon, and Kara Whicker; and Greyson, Charlotte, and Colin Whicker. They will miss "Grandma Joan" more than words can express. Funeral services will be held Sat., May 23, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Willow Canyon 3rd Ward, 9639 S. 1700 E., Sandy. A viewing will be held Friday, May 22, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street in Midvale and on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the ward building. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. In Joan's memory, hold your children tight and your grandchildren tighter, read them a story, and do something kind for a neighbor or friend. | ||

***************
Joan was in my Family ward growing up. I remember being a small beehive and her daughter LeeAnn was a Laurel, I looked up to these older girls. My brother's were friends with her sons and Joan was our primary chorister for many years~ Joan was such a wonderful example and fun to talk with. She was so professional in her work and had fought cancer to the VERY end. We were fortunate but not fortunate at the same time to see Joan and her family 3 years ago when Trent and her were next to one another at the hospital. We had a great time talking with her and hearing about the cruise she and her husband were getting ready to go on.
My prayers and thoughts are with her family, Joan your an amazing lady, the world has lost a wonderful person. May you have the comfort you have deserved for so many years.

In Memory!!
JOHNSVILLE: Herbert Ray "Herb" Benjamin, 56, of Johnsville, passed away Monday afternoon May 4, 2009 in his home, following a courageous 14-year battle with melanoma.
Born September 16, 1952 in Alliance to William Eugene and Marjorie Anne (Spencer) Benjamin, Herbert was graduated from Alliance High School in 1970.
He had worked as technician on televisions with his own Benjamin's TV Service and with Tom's TV in Alliance. After moving to the Mansfield area in 1981, Herbert accepted a position as an electronic technician with Sears. More recently he drove school busses for the Northmor School District and charter busses with S&S Coach.
Herb was a life member of Lexington/Shelby Elks Lodge #2554, served the lodge four years as a trustee and secretary, and was a two-term Exalted Ruler and also as treasurer.
He was able to make the jump from analog to digital before most, and found himself working on and fixing computers, and maintained the website of his brother Robert Benjamin.
Very dedicated to his wife and daughter, Herb was also a skilled woodworker, tackling large-scale projects himself ~ even building an addition and garage on to their home. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, and creatively made several flavors of homemade wine.
He is survived by his wife, Marian J. (Spahlinger) Benjamin, whom he married March 25, 1978; their daughter, Cora Benjamin; his stepmother, Ann Benjamin of Alliance; brothers and sisters-in-law, William Eugene & Debbie Benjamin of Phoenix, AZ, Robert & Becky Benjamin of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Janet Benjamin of Beloit, and Marsha Morgan of Pilot Rock, OR; step brothers, Sam Kyser in Michigan and Richard in Kentucky; and nieces and nephews.
His father and mother are deceased.
The Benjamin Family will receive friends Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue (Former Finefrock Funeral Home), where Lexington/Shelby Elks Lodge #2554 will hold a memorial service at 7:45 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Paul Young will officiate.
Memorial contributions to MedCentral Hospice or the American Cancer Society may be made at the funeral home.
Those unable to attend may offer sympathy and condolence to the Benjamin Family online.
Shawn recieved a phone call lastnight from his Father that Shawn's Uncle Herb had passed away. Shawn felt bad being that if he would have known before hand he would have made his way out to say goodbye, Herb was an Uncle on his Dad's side that he actually had somewhat of a connection too. I guess I will just never understand the way other's work. Herb was always so great to include us by sending cards every Christmas or sending pictures here and there. I feel bad he suffered for so many years, his family had been through so much. I wish his wife and daughter the best and we have such deep sympathy for the Family. Since one day I will be putting my blog into a book I felt that it was important to post my husband (our daughters Father)'s uncle's obituary so that one day my children will know each side of there family from the Benjamins to the Hammonds, to the Veenendaals and to the Stevens....

Cowabunga Bay....
My kids are SO excited for the waterpark Cowabunga Bay to open.. For a while Bryhn would call it Cowabajio bay~ not sure where she got that from.. We drive past it anytime going to Nana and Papa's or preschool and just about anywhere else we go.. the kids are so so excited, we even have to drive up to it so they can see that they are still working on it. It says that it is the worlds largest waterpark.. hmm! Fun for us here in Utah.

Malaya's Birthday Party!!
the kids had pizza and cake and present time..
Bryhn and Danica's friend Malaya (Jen's daughter) turned 4... Wow, so hard to believe her and Bryhn are 4 year olds. Both Jen and I went through heck and back just to have these babies; we both had pre eclampsia / hellp syndrome. Malaya had the BEST party... it was at Dimple Dell Rec center and I must say I give it a score of 10 out of 10- it was GrEaT!!
Look at the kids coming down the waterslide, it was an area for just there size.

Las Vegas Easter 2009~
I love all these kids. We sure miss Dillon, Ashlynn and Samantha living in Las Vegas~ What great oppurtunities they have been blessed with while being there.
Here are the girls riding on a wood horse. Such a fun time... Yee Haw!!!
Here was I believe a Stallion. These horses are amazingly BIG!! Then here was a bull, the bull had the ring in his nose. I would not want to mess with him.
There were so many different kind of animals the kids were able to see, they were able to pet any of the animals that were outside roaming free..
Here is the Deer Danica was really trying to stay away from. She did not like it to lick her pocket and get yuck all over her close! Danica is a bit OCD..
Danica stayed as far away from the PIG as she could, she would stand for a picture but would not get down by the pig and touch him.
Bryhn, however did not care, the pig was friendly and did not mind anyone bothering him.
Here is a goat... Look at those crazy teeth. Bryhn has such a love for animals and is so kind hearted.
here is a some ginnie pigs, the turtles and praire dogs. Those ginnie pigs were for sale for purchase as well.. I do not think Shawn would like us bringing one back home to Utah.
Here is Steph and the kids, they went to jail as well.. Nobody wanted to bail them out.
We tried to leave the kids in Jail but they were SO cute we had to take them home with us.

we went to Primm Neveda, the kids went on the Hopper ride and of course loved it, we all went on the log ride even Trent went on it and had a great time.

here are pictures of Steph and Dustin when they were on the log ride~ what good times, what a fun time we had...
Here is the freakiest roller coaster. My Dad, Dustin, Stephanie, Shawn and Jeremy all went on the ride. I chickened out this time.. Next time in Vegas I will have to take a shot! I used to be able to handle it, I think as I have gotten older my stomach has become weaker....

Living For Eden Benefit Concert
The Living For Eden Concert to benefit Paul Cardall has passed... I am a bit behind on my postings. What an amazing event with such wonderful wonderful talent to support Paul, Lynnette and Eden... Paul is on the heart transplant list and has been since August! Please continue with his journey on his website: http://mytricuspidatresia.blogspot.com/
There was a silent auction before the performances of a sold out concert with AMAZING talent.. My cute Mom made ALL these watches and donated them to be sold at the silent auction~ Great news was that everything sold.. How wonderful is that, a sold out concert and many talented and great people putting there talent to work.
There was SO many amazing items! Shawn and I bought a painting, we took the bid price. I will have to post a picture of it, I did not think to do so while doing all this.. Remember I am a month behind on my blogging with still more to go.
Danica, Bryhn and Eden had such a great time.. We took Eden and let her play with the girls, cute Lynnette had SO many people to meet and greet. The kids always manage to have a fun time NO matter where they are.

FlashBack Friday!
I feel that it is only appropriate to do a flashback Friday on my cute Grandma Veenendaal~ She is my daughter's Great Grandma and in this picture is Bryhn Aleen who's middle name is after my Grandma... This was taken at Bryhn's first Birthday.
My cute grandma has had to have some tests done to determine if she may have cancer again!
